MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

 

Position Summary

 

The Maintenance Mechanic improves the quality, timeliness, and safe repair of equipment for the maintenance organization with the overall goal of increasing equipment uptime.  As a member of the Maintenance Department, the Maintenance Mechanic reports to the Maintenance Manager.

 

Position Responsibilities

 

Implements the concepts of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) by:  (30%)

 

  • Conducting root cause analysis for equipment breakdowns;
  • Leading improvement projects to enhance process maintainability;
  • Redesigning equipment configurations to improve maintenance efficiency;
  • Replacing underperforming equipment; and
  • Engaging with corporate project teams to identify opportunities to institute reliability in the planning stages.
     
    Analyzes data and equipment history for improvement opportunities by:  (30%)
     
  • Consulting with Technicians, Planners, Operating Managers, and Supervisors to determine preventative maintenance (PM) and repair effectiveness;
  • Conducting independent PM reviews to determine relevance and accuracy;
  • Assessing the Maintenance Technician utilization and performance;
  • Tracking mean time to repair (MTTR) and mean time between failures (MTBF);
  • Calculating PM/ predictive maintenance (Pdm) spending;
  • Estimating equipment lifecycle costing;
  • Evaluating plant critical equipment and spares; and
  • Reporting cost impact of improvement projects.
     
    Works with Maintenance Technicians and Production Operators to establish departmental repair and maintenance standards by:  (15%)
     
  • Researching and developing new or improved repair work plans and procedures;
  • Identifying and creating new PM procedures using accepted best practices;
  • Developing repair and rebuild procedures for critical plant equipment;
  • Participating in down day planning and critique meetings;
  • Writing test procedures for repaired equipment to ensure repairs meet operating specifications;
  • Initiating engineering studies into equipment/process repair time; and
  • Establishing appropriate predictive techniques for monitoring equipment performance.
     
    Scope of Position:

 

The Maintenance Mechanic, working closely with the Production Manager, Maintenance Manager, Planners, Supervisors, and the Storeroom Attendant, evaluates maintenance effectiveness and efficiency and reviews preventative maintenance procedures and applicability of scheduled maintenance.  The incumbent also assesses the effectiveness of repairs and determines additional practices and technology to be applied to these processes and conducts root cause analysis for equipment failures while working with the Maintenance Manager to determine course of action.

 

Position Requirements

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required:

 

  • Demonstrated skills with the standard features of various personal computer word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, and other proprietary software).
  • Experience with a computer maintenance management system (CMMS), such as MP2 or similar system.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills with the ability to relate well and cooperate with others to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and continual diligence about follow-up.
  • Strong desire to learn.
  • Well organized with the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be able to lead and be a part of cross-functional teams. 
  • Knowledgeable of root cause and fault tree analysis techniques.

Education/Experience:

Required:

  • 5 or more years maintenance experience in a continuous operating (24/7) manufacturing environment.
  • 1 or more years of experience planning/scheduling through hands-on experience.
  • Experience working with a CMMS.
  • Technical certification a plus
