Engineer - Work Flow Lead

Position Summary

 

Provide leadership for the site workflow process with focus on increasing productivity and efficiency of maintenance resources. Ensure workflow participants are properly trained and performing their intended function. As a member of the Maintenance Department, the Workflow Lead reports to the Maintenance Manager.

 

Position Responsibilities

 

Workflow Lead

 

  • Initial responsibility will be to develop and implement a short-term and long-term sustainable Workflow Process (Planning, Scheduling, Storeroom, Kitting) throughout the site 
  • Manages workflow, handles escalations, proactively engage resources to address issues and effectively delegate workload across the teams
  • Responsible for driving efficiency related initiatives / goals at the site and responsible for initiating best practice sharing across the network
  • Drives continuous improvement of the workflow process by monitoring metrics, analyzing work order feedback and making direct observations to identify improvement opportunities. Create and implement action plans to correct issues and close gaps.
  • Trains, coaches and develops Planners, Storeroom Personnel, and Scheduler’s to perform at high levels to increase maintenance resource productivity and efficiency. Deploy resources as needed to meet site workflow requirements.
  • Facilitates training and development of all site employees to improve the workflow process and overall site knowledge. Work with Operations and Maintenance personnel to hold all participants accountable to following the workflow process
  • Develops and shares Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with Operations and Maintenance Leadership; Schedule Compliance, Schedule Loading, Planned vs Unplanned, PM Compliance, Work Type Performed, Work Order Backlog Size, and Work Request Backlog Size
  • Champion the use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and ensure that Planners, Maintenance Leaders, Reliability Techs, and Reliability Engineers maintain maintenance and repair records and utilize the system to its full potential. Ensure accurate data entry to the CMMS. Continuously improve spare parts inventory management via CMMS.
  • Utilizes Wrench Time Studies to measure and improve how much time maintenance techs spend with a tool in their hand, performing actual maintenance work
  • Oversees execution of preventative/predictive maintenance programs.

 

Storeroom

 

  • Provides leadership through effective planning, motivation and leadership techniques to ensure the orderly processing of storeroom work
  • Organizes, supervises, and directs the work of storeroom personnel engaged in receiving, issuing, and kitting supplies and equipment

Scope of Position:

 

The workflow lead is responsible for establishing a predefined, repeatable outline that entails systematic procedures for managing available resources, people and technology for the work that needs to be accomplished. The Workflow Lead creates a well-organized maintenance management workflow system through an orchestrated structure that comprises four main stages; initiation stage where the work request is generated, on approval of the service request, a maintenance event is planned and maintainers are dispatched, work is completed and the equipment is restored to optimal efficiency, and reports are generated specifying the nature of equipment failure, diagnosis of the problem, and details of repair and replacement procedures. The Workflow Lead uses these reports for evaluation of equipment performance and for identifying areas of improvement. The Workflow Lead will use this approach to reduce and/or eliminate the consequences of unplanned downtime, increased overhead costs, frequent equipment failures, reduced asset life and lost productivity.

 

Position Requirements

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required:

 

  • Experience with Planning, scheduling and workflow process improvements
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities and understand the interrelations within an industrial facility
  • Demonstrated advanced skills with the standard features of various personal computer word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, and other proprietary software).
  • Experience with a computer maintenance management system (CMMS), such as BE or similar system.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills with the ability to relate well and cooperate with others to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and continual diligence about follow-up.
  • Strong desire to learn.
  • Well organized with the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be able to lead and be a part of cross-functional teams. 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Education/Experience:

Required:

 

  • A minimum of 5 years related experience, or 4-yr engineering/technical degree and 3+ years related experience in a continuous operating (24/7) manufacturing environment with experience leading teams while working in operations and/or maintenance
  • Strong mechanical experience required, operational experience preferred as operational involvement and buy in are foundational to the workflow process
  • Experience working with heavy manufacturing workflow processes is a plus
  • Experience working with Storeroom Personnel is a plus
