The Accounting Manager plays a leadership role within the Accounting Department. The position will report directly to the US Assistant Controller, who in turns reports directly to the Group Controller.   This position will require technical and leadership skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment by reporting on, analyzing, and influencing the accounting processes and internal controls performed by James Hardie’s corporate functions (such as pricing, legal, and warranty). The Accounting Manager will act as a thought leader on a range of technical accounting, internal control, and finance related issues. In addition to core accounting roles and responsibilities, this position will be a leader in driving projects, as well as identifying new performance improvement opportunities.

This position will oversee the GL Corporate Accounting sub-team (5 employees), with indirect interface with corporate department leaders (such as pricing, legal, and warranty). This position will require 5-10% travel annually.



  • Bachelor’s degree with a major or emphasis in Accounting from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 7-9 total accouting experience
  • Experience in leading and supervising a staff of 2 or more
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP


  • 3-4 years in public accounting +4-5 years in industry
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification
  • Experience with SAP
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Big 4 public accountant
  • Industry mix of large and small companies

Position Responsibilities

  • Reviews monthly general journal entries, income and balance sheet statements, account reconciliations, and various other accounting statements and reports as appropriate to support an accurate and timely monthly financial close for the Company’s U.S. division;
  • Maintaining integrity of general ledger transactions;
  • Ensuring that all financial statements are presented in accordance with United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and appropriate financial variance analyses are provided timely to management;
  • Mentor and guide staff with questions and accounting issues;
  • Lead the team to accomplish personal and professional goals;
  • Developing strong working relationships with coworkers and other departments.
  • Navigating and extracting data from financial systems to investigate and resolve outstanding items as appropriate;
  • Writing quarterly balance sheet fluctuation narratives to support the external financial reporting process and external audit.
  • Identifying process inefficiencies and helping to support the identification of the underlying root causes;
  •  Partnering with other finance and non-finance groups to support design and implement process improvements;
  • Performing periodic testing for compliance with written policies and procedures as part of the overall SOX program;
  • Assisting in the continued development and documentation of SOX-related policies, procedures, and internal controls;
  • Providing timely communication to the US Assistant Controller or other management to support  effective resolutions.
