Position Summary

 

We are seeking to appoint an Sr. Engineering Manager, for the Research & Product Development team to work alongside the R&D Project Manager, to define and develop engineering management systems, processes and disciplines around global R&D Engineer projects.  This role will be responsible for building future technology, Pilot Plant design and leading a high performing and innovative team of engineers to deliver engineering outputs that meet the highest global standards.

 

Position Responsibilities

 

  • Develops and implements strategic and technical direction from concept through implementation of new and improved engineering technology:
  • Providing high level technical guidance and oversight on multidisciplinary engineering projects
  • Lead the Engineering Team and manage the scheduling, delegation, production, timely delivery and quality of all engineering outputs, in accordance with priorities set from the business.
  • Manage realistic project plans and build appropriate and effective teams to accomplish set project goals;
  • Working Closely with Project Manager, R&D Sr. Leaders, Engineering Teams, and key stakeholders to participate in design review meetings;
  • Leading engineering design, equipment specifications, processes, and technology projects; and
  • Supporting the stage gate process to be able to meet all established milestones and overall business objectives.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with internal colleagues, customers, external vendors and service providers by:
  1. Communicating project progress accurately and timely to Technical and Business leaders;
  • Develops the processes, tools and techniques to manage the teams to achieve the required outcomes, and to realize organisational and business operational goals by:
  • Ensuring workforce resources are in place and aligned with business needs and organisation culture;
  • Promoting organisational change and adoption of common business processes; and
  • Building capability of team members to ensure bench strength within the department
  • Creates an awareness of the importance of Maximizing operational efficiency within JH Research and other functional groups that work closely with R&D by:
  1. Foster and innovative and agile working environment to support cross-functional collaboration
  2. Manage the generation of Intellectual Property and Trade secrets in the areas of engineering technology
  • Ensure that James Hardie’s operations are in line with our Zero Harm standards and culture at all times.
  • Report any incidents, hazards, near misses or “at-risk” behaviors in a timely fashion
  • Providing supervision and training to others to allow them to perform their work safely
  • Responding to any hazard or incident that is raised by another James Hardie team member and provide or seek the support required to allow them to work safely and respond to the identified workplace issue.

Position Requirements

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to design layout and equipment specifications and manufacturing processes for pilot facilties.
  • Demonstrated success in technical project management and delivery
  • Experience in coaching and managing a team of engineers to deliver engineering projects under timelines.
  • High level of communication skills to manage internal and external stakeholder.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and high regard for quality, delivery and cost management.
  • Strong relationship management
  • Ability to think strategically with an inquisitive and creative mindset.
  • Ability to influence and inspire a cross-functional team and senior leadership.
  • Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines

 

 

 

Education/Experience Required:

 

Education / Work Experience:

  • Bachelor or Masters degree in an Engineering Discipline (Mechanical/Mechatronic/Electrical or Chemical Process preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years of technical experience within a senior engineering department
  • Knowledge with technical codes, standards and specifications
  • Knowledge and experience using core technology including but not limited to AutoCAD, Automated model programming, CAD, Engineering product data management software.
