R&D Scientist

 

Scope of Position: 

The R&D Scientist is responsible for understanding project objectives and the impact on the business; developing a project plan and testing methods to accomplish the project at-hand, making recommendations based on the data analyzed, and implementing the results

  • Demonstrate sense of urgency and resourcefulness in completing various assignments involving both standard operations and developmental research with minimal to no supervision.
  • Some travel is required, approximately 10%

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design testing, conduct hands on laboratory testing, analyze and interpret data by applying chemical and engineering principles toward product performance evaluation and composite formulation development
  • Draw conclusions and make recommendations from laboratory studies based on sound material science knowledge and logical thinking
  • Document results as research reports and communicate the findings in presentations.
  • Support on and off site application trials, manufacturing/process quality improvements, and problem solving

 

Position Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in mechanical testing, reversed engineering, and analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC-MS, FTIR, DSC/TG, ICP and other laboratory instruments for organic/inorganic materials characterization is preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to clearly communicate research findings through presentations and reports.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and cooperate with others cross-functionally on multiple projects to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals
  • Results driven, self-disciplined, self-directing, and hold high standard in deliverables

 

Education/Experience (Required):

  • B.S. with 3+ years of laboratory experience; OR
  • Master’s degree in analytical chemistry, material science or chemical/environmental engineering ; AND
  • Enthusiasm for laboratory work and hands-on research is required

 

Quantitative Dimensions

  • Decision Making: Innovative decision making abilities are required to be successful in this individual contributor role.  As an R&D team member, the lab scientist is required to make key decisions with regard to the assigned research projects that will have both immediate and long-term impact to the business.
