Primary Purpose

The Advanced Research Engineer will be primarily responsible for developing new technologies to enable the scale up of new JH designs compatible with internal manufacturing capabilities, including but not limited to methods of physical characterization of the product, methods scale-able to a manufacturing setting and mathematical modeling of the mechanical and flow behavior of 3D shapes.  The successful candidate will be a hands-on scientist or engineer who has a depth of technical curiosity and a penchant for learning new things and with a strong bias for urgency and quality.

 

Responsibilities

Core Function:

Utilizes scientific and/or engineering skills to identify new characterization technologies for capturing the aesthetic and quality details of our products as well as developing mathematical (FEA) models to predict the mechanical performance of the same

  • Use Design of Experiment (DoE) to evaluate and scale-up winning design concepts for new products
  • Identify commercially available characterization tools needed for geometric analysis and quality assurance of new concepts/products and ensure their scalability for manufacturing environments
  • Optimize, modify or create the operational paths for existing equipment for compatibility with new product designs
  • Participate in pilot and factory trials for new products
  • Participate in global cross functional teamwork to deliver project goals

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in object-oriented programming in order to modify characterization tools as needed
  • Experience in mathematical modeling preferably experience with flow modeling, such as Fluent
  • Familiarity with production scale process equipment
  • Familiarity with materials-based systems

Education/Experience (Required):

  • Advanced degree (preferably Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering, preferably with an undergraduate in Materials Science/Ceramics, Chemical Engineering or related field
