As a Project Engineer at James Hardie, you'll work on capital projects with a focus on plant infrastructure.  You'll be part of a growing construction team reporting to the Engineering Manager.  You'll work independently or as part of a team on small to medium capital projects from inception to completion across the James Hardie Manufacturing Network (11 locations) throughout North America.  Travel will be approximately 50%.


Projects assigned may include Site Development and / or Improvements to Existing Plant Infrastructure such as:


  • Grading and Drainage
  • Asphalt or Concrete Paving
    • Employee Parking
    • Truck Staging
    • Truck Loading / Strapping / Tarping
    • Site Entrance and Exit
  • Signage and Pavement Markings
  • Rail Spur
    • Earthworks including Ballast and Sub Ballast
    • New or Modified Track
    • Switching
  • Underground Utilities
  • Underground and Above Ground Structures and Equipment including:
    • Truck Docks
    • Truck Scales
    • Rail Dock
    • Remote Read Out and Display
    • Fall Protection Systems
  • Minor Building Improvements including:
    • Modifications and Relocations
    • Shipping Office
    • Truck Doors
    • Personnel Doors
    • Site Lighting


Position Responsibilities

  • Working Closely with Supply Chain and Logistics Team, Develop Project Scope and Budget;
    • Manage Scope Change
  • Coordinate Site Surveys
  • Supervise design including site layout, building design, grading and drainage, paving, structures, and underground utilities;
  • Develop specifications and purchase mechanical equipment including truck docks, truck scales, etc.
    • Monitor and expedite deliveries;
    • Supervise Installation by contractor or vendor technicians;
    • Commissioning and plant turnover;
  • Permitting, Compliance, and Inspections
    • State and Local Building Codes, Plant Standards, Factory Mutual;
    • Coordination with Local Building Code Officials;
    • Coordination with Local Utility Providers as required to complete work
    • Coordination with Rail Service Provider as required to complete work
  • Lead project design review meetings with plant and central teams;
  • Prepare scope of work, bid and award contracts;
  • Supervise construction works;
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality;
  • Enforce corporate and construction department safety regulations;

Education and Skills (Required):

  • BS Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering; or similar combination of Education and Experience
  • Advanced skills with personal computers including Microsoft Word and Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to work in AutoCAD (Advanced Drawing Skills Preferred)
  • Ability to monitor progress in scheduling software (i.e. MS Project)


6-10 Years Experience (Preferred)

  • Project Management Experience;
  • Experience in an Industrial Manufacturing Environment
  • Experience with Site Infrastructure Projects
  • Experience managing multiple projects at multiple sites simultaneously;
  • Knowledge of Building Codes, FM Global, and OSHA standards
  • Proven Commitment to Safety working inside a Zero Harm Culture
