Senior Retail Business Insights Analyst

The  Sr. Business Insights Analyst  will be a key business partner to the Commercial Retail Team, partnering with this team to analyze data, uncover insights, and develop recommendations for growth with some of our key retail customers including The Home Depot & Lowes. This role will provide direction to leadership in the retail sales organization based off of patterns they’ve discovered.  This role spans both project-related and ongoing operational goals, and has a heavy focus on our backer business, with some emphasis on the siding business. 

The role will have two primary focuses.  First, the individual will serve as analytical lead for the retail business.  This will involve active and collaborative participation on cross-functional teams including broader finance teams and the retail commercial leadership team.  The individual will be expected to be the finance subject matter expert on all the retail market.  This will require deep analytical skills to enable actionable insights to guide the retail business.   

Second, the individual will develop and maintain the business performance reporting.  This will have a clear focus on outcomes: cost, volume, service, and profit margin.  The individual will strategically allocate time spent on analytics, collaboration and influence to drive positive outcomes. 

 

Position Responsibilities 

The role will have two primary focuses.  First, (75%) the individual will serve as analytical lead for the retail business.  This will involve active and collaborative participation on cross-functional teams including broader finance teams and the retail commercial leadership team.  The individual will be expected to be the finance subject matter expert on all the retail market.  This will require deep analytical skills to enable actionable insights to guide the retail business.   

Second, (25%) the individual will develop and maintain the business performance reporting.  This will have a clear focus on outcomes: cost, volume, service, and profit margin.  The individual will strategically allocate time spent on analytics, collaboration and influence to drive positive outcomes. 

  • Develop and track key metrics to identify opportunities for the retail business improvement including our key retail partners: The Home Depot & Lowes.  Improvement opportunities are found by tracking trends, patterns to make insights and using those to make recommendations to senior leaders and retail merchants. 

  • Synthesize information on performance trends and competitive intelligence to guide senior business leaders in strategic planning, forecasting and identifying customer growth opportunities. 

  • Ensure that all dashboard and reporting accurately portrays business performance and trends 

  • Collaborate with Sales leaders by taking analyses and key learnings and turning that into improved processes and growth opportunities throughout the organization. 

  • Drive long term profitable growth by providing insightful analysis of specific products, establishing key metrics, while evaluating risks and opportunities, and support in business decision making  

  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of data used by the business 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Exceptional analytical abilities required and a natural curiosity for understanding the “why” behind the business results. This includes outstanding attention to detail and willingness to handle ambiguity in data availability and definitive metrics. 

  • Proven ability to synthesize large amounts of complex into actionable insights. Articulates views in a clear and concise manner, and can share clear insights and observations that will manifest into business decisions and thoughtful recommendations to customers.  

  • A good listener with outstanding interpersonal qualities and a natural, effective consultative style. Someone who is sought out for their opinions and counsel and who can forge and maintain close relationships, has the ability to engage with all levels in addressing complex business issues. 

  • An individual with strong leadership presence who works well with all levels in the organization, as well as key external stake holders. 

  • Ability to influence leadership and lead the way when met with resistance 

  • Strong bias for results and can work independently as well as interact effectively across functions and at all levels 

  • Confidence and ability to use data to influence others in the organization and outline what the business should do differently  

  • Ability to proactively manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, change oriented environment, yet flexible enough to adapt to changes 

  • Experience with using and creating reports / dashboards in BI tools such as Tableau, SAP Business Objects or related data visualization tools a plus 

Education/Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or another quantitative discipline 

  • 3-5 years of analytical experience working with large data sets 

  • Proficiency in Excel and SQL 

  • Experience in a large business unit within a sophisticated, global, public company environment, preferably in the retail space
