Capital Projects Analyst

The Capacity Projects Analsyt role is a crucial position on the central engineering team that will be executing large scale site expansions and new site capacity builds for growing demand. The role will lead in the development, tracking, reporting and analysis for large capital builds. The individual will be an integral member of the operations finance team and will report directly to the Engineering Finance Manager located in Chicago.

Position Responsibilities

Provide financial oversight in capital expenditure creation, variance tracking, cash forecasting, management reporting, accounting support and analysis of line and plant startup performance (80%):

  • Lead the Capital Expenditure request creation process of large capital in developing a cohesive business case and return analysis.
  • Collaborate with plant engineering design team to execute spending, track variance drivers and coordinate documentation management.
  • Manage cash forecasting through tracking large purchase agreement payment timing, monitoring foreign exchange rate impact and validating crucial invoice receipts, approvals and payments.
  • Provide large capital summary management reporting and commentary on performance against target.
  • Work directly with the project accounting team to review, verify and correct both purchase orders and invoicing treatment.
  • Support the plant startup teams with forecasting, performance analysis and cost tracking to ensure manufacturing gates and associated cost targets are achieved.

Provide project support through managing key timeline targets, vendor relationships, taxation law application and local permitting (20%):

  • Track project team timeline and provide status updates utilized in executive summary reporting.
  • Partner with business to understand, validate and apply taxation laws and incentives specific to the plant site.
  • Coordinate permitting process and information flow through partnering with the engineering team, project manager and local/state permitting representatives.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and/or Accounting required
  • 3 – 5 years of analysis experience
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel experience required (pivot tables, vlookups/hlookups, sumifs, graphs/charts), PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Strong analytical abilities and organization required – including exceptional attention to detail and an aptitude to manage several reporting package deadlines at once.
  • Advanced analytical skills, exceptional problem solving abilities, a high degree of intellectual curiosity and the capacity to engage with others in addressing business issues
  • Inclination for straightforward communication, direct feedback and a strong group work ethic
  • Strong listening skills with excellent interpersonal qualities and a natural, effective consultative style. Ability to forge and maintain close relationships, both internally and externally
  • Estimate 50% travel post-pandemic
