Director of Shopper Marketing

Position Summary

The Director of Shppper Marketing will look after strategy and execution within the retail channel, inclusive of exterior and interior product solutions. Experience in both brand management and retail shopper marketing, inclusive of experience commercializing new product launches in store, online, and through effective engagement of retail sales associates is needed.  Key areas of responsibility include: Brand strategy and positioning, development and execution of strategic marketing plans, product commercialization, media and communications, project management, marketing analytics, and a high-degree of communication and partnership with internal and external stakeholders at all levels within the organization.


Position Responsibilities


  • Establish winning marketing strategy for our retail channels in support of company growth goals.
  • Use analytical and strategic thinking skills to provide innovative product and merchandising ideas to drive revenue.

Brand Management

  • Lead work needed to develop and/or optimize brand positioning, messaging, creative, and brand health measurement for our interior products (Hardie® Backer cement boards).
  • Partner to ensure effective MarComms delivery of our exterior product line within the retail environment.

Omni-Channel Marketing                                                                                                                            

  • Digital / eCommerce
    • Partner with Shopper and Digital marketing teams, as well as external retailers, to position James Hardie to win within retail in Dot Com.
  • Retail Merchandising
    • Lead the design and execution of retail packaging, POP, collateral, and in-aisle activations.
    • Partner with the retail team to develop best in class training/communication for retail associates.
    • Maintain contact with Shopper Marketing team, and retailer partners to get critical input on how product design and implementation can be improved.
  • Demand Generation
    • Lead the development and execution of media in partnership with advertising agency and digital marketing team.
    • Measure, report out and optimize the marketing plans based on results.
  • Budget Management
    • Assist in developing the annual retail marketing budget and manage the monthly spend within forecast.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, or Business is preferred
  • 12+ years of experience in a corporate marketing environment; with a preferred focus on channel/retail and shopper marketing required
  • Experience working with Home Depot and Lowe’s (strongly preferred), specifically on in store execution
  • Specific work experience in marketing, sales, advertising, project management, administrative support operations, written communications, and documentation management are highly desirable
  • Must be able to create, execute and manage comprehensive integrated marketing campaigns
  • Exceptional attention to detail and project management skills
  • Proven ability to effectively navigate through ambiguous situations
  • Self-starter with high sense of personal accountability
  • Able to manage and motivate people through influence, this person is able to build strong relationships with a wide range of people
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing dynamic new channel/market strategies
  • Exceptional verbal and report presentation abilities
