Director, Global Communications

Position Overview:

The Director, Global Communications position is responsible for leading the development of strategic internal and external communications, enhancing the brand and profile of the Company with targeted stakeholders and audiences.   This position will be responsible to work closely with senior leadership in a variety of functions, including human resources, investor relations, legal and other groups throughout the global organization to develop strategy and provide program support for the company’s internal employee communications and external communications efforts.

 

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing a consistent internal and external communication and employee brand messaging strategy that is reflected across all communications programs.  On average, this role will spend approximately 50% of time on internal communications and program support, 50% on external communications, including market/investor communication, events, media, etc.
  • Identifying, researching, and writing informative and engaging content for employee communications and target external audiences, including partnering with Marketing on social media, industry and/or mainstream news outlets as appropriate, depending on topic and situation.
  • Developing key messages and talking points, assisting with strategic communication requirements for senior executives, including presentation development, interview preparation and speech writing, etc.
  • Responsible for identifying and building relationships with media contacts, aligned with communications strategy and in alignment with marketing strategy.
  • Supporting Investor Relations (IR) programs, providing message development and support for quarterly earnings and other financial announcements. Working with IR to identify key media opportunities with top tier media, trade publications, analysts, etc.
  • Providing guidance / counsel and support materials in crisis situations to mitigate and/or manage risks.
  • Develop relationships with internal teams, vendors, agencies and other partners to promote an integrated communications approach across the global organization, as appropriate.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with select agencies and contractors required to meet strategic goals and business objectives, while staying within budget.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience, including experience in strategic communications role is required
  • Demonstrated track record developing compelling employee communications programming, including content and communication vehicle support
  • Demonstrated ability to connect individual communications activities or products to higher-level strategies and goals
  • Demonstrated ability interfacing with media outlets and investment/banking communities, developing and communicating key messages and other materials related to business performance, events, etc., for dissemination as appropriate.
  • Working knowledge of uses and administration of popular social media outlets (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube)
  • Sensitivity to diverse global audiences, demonstrated sound judgement about messaging in materials, using communications vehicles and addressing global audiences (internally and externally).
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels (e.g., executives, plant employees, external analysts, media contacts, etc.)
  • Proven ability to work under deadline pressure with diverse teams and/or in crisis management situations, successfully mitigating / managing risks
  • Experience managing contractor / vendor partners
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other products required to support daily administration and creative work associated with programs
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% during peak periods, with international travel for specific events
