Business Analyst - Data Analytics Solutions Strategist

Position Summary 


The Data Analytics Solutions Strategist position is integral in the development and execution of the James Hardie pricing strategies.  This position will be the lead in collecting, standardizing, and interpreting mass amounts of data across various tools and sources to provide reporting, insights, and recommendations to drive pricing efficiencies, market share growth and maximizing profit opportunities. This role will partner with sales, commercial leadership and finance teams as the pricing subject matter expert and will be a core team member driving strategic business priorities.  


The role will require a high degree of strategic thinking, mastery of mass data standardization and analytics and ability to build databases and visualization tools. This person will also need to showcase significant project management skills, organizational capabilities, and identification of trends.    


Position Responsibilities 


Data Solution Strategy & Design (60%)  

Serve as the Data Analytics Solutions Strategist in support of the Pricing team of the James Hardie North American business. Standardize data, develop, and build a JH pricing analytics database platform and reporting / visualization tools.  Enhance pricing analysis and reporting devices. 


  • Develop standardized reporting and dashboards to identify rebate trends and provide ongoing, actionable insights to sales, finance, and commercial leadership stakeholders. 

  • Monitor, optimize, and report on financial growth, market share, rebate & competitive pricing intelligence metrics.  Pilot test results and make recommendations based on analytics and test findings. 

  • Hands-on oversight and management of reporting within key digital tools: SQL,, Advanced Excel, Access, Tableau. 

  • Projects may include:  

  1. Standardization of National builder & dealer claims 

  1. Master data analysis to standardize claims reporting & formatting 

  1. National builder playbook enhancements 

  1. Analysis & visualizations 

  1. Lead implementation of a net revenue allocation model (by product and channel)  

  1. Big Data analysis: 3rd party vendor partner 

  1. 3rd party vendor partner data subject matter expert 

  1. SKU master & translation tables / analytics 

  1. Reporting & analysis 

  1. Build and maintain database for competitive pricing intelligence 

  1. Exploration standardization options for regional / local claims 


Project & Change Management (20%) 

Lead pricing transformation through large scale operational and IT programs. Work collaboratively with commercial business partners, sales operations, Controllership, Pricing and IT teams to improve overall customer and sales experience with pricing programs. Candidate will lead process improvement and leverage project management frameworks to align operational processes to North America commercial strategies. The role will be the subject matter expert of pricing operations.  Key responsibilities include: 


  • Drive business change through management of complex, ambiguous projects and programs that span across multiple teams and organizations. 

  • Identify potential revenue cycle management solutions, evaluate software solutions and lead RFP process.  

  • Act as liaison between business partners and Business Technology software development teams.  Identify interdependencies across projects and team resources. Align business on project and/or program success factors and drive mitigation of significant issues and risks. 

  • Drive organizational adoption. Build training & communication collateral/enablement. 

  • Provide status updates to leadership and maintain issue logs and project risks. 


Pricing Support & Analytics (20%) 

Business partner with Pricing Manager and the Commercial Sales and Segment teams to analyze pricing programs with national builders and understand the profitability of deals and return on investment. This role will leverage a strong understanding of channel dynamics, competitive landscape, market position and sales strategy to uncover emerging trends via rebate analytics, competitive market intelligence and competitive responses to drive actionable insights.  


The role is also responsible for the development and reporting of key performance pricing metrics so that the overall pricing function stays on track both on key commercial initiatives and business as usual functions.  Variances to targets will be analyzed and operational drivers will be identified and communicated with commercial leadership.

Quantitative Dimensions 


The pricing team within James Hardie has responsibility for approximately $1.5 billion in annual revenue responsibility.  The expectation is that this role will have a high degree of impact on the developing the analytical methods that we use to measure the pricing performance within the organization and additionally be a key driver in pricing project identification, design, implementation, and execution to help us drive EBIT performance. 

Decision Making: 

The Data Analytics Solutions Strategist has exceptional and highly advanced technical and analytical aptitude and is expected to make judgments based on data as well as filtering out data that has low impact to the business.  The Data Analytics Solutions Strategist is expected to be the key driver and decision maker around which variables to maneuver to help builds databases and lead efforts towards standardization of data and building a pricing analytics database    

Attention to Detail: 

The Data Analytics Solutions Strategist has outstanding attention to detail skills along with the ability to communicate and simplify complex issues with cross functional teams.  Analytical skills are excellent and the incumbent must have the ability to identify and demonstrate trends and make recommendations based on the analysis that drive execution consistent with the Company’s strategic direction. 

Scope of Position: 

The Data Analytics Solutions Strategist will be the lead in collecting, standardizing, and interpreting mass amounts of data across various tools and sources to provide reporting, insights, and recommendations to drive pricing efficiencies, market share growth and maximizing profit opportunities. This role will partner with sales, commercial leadership and finance teams as the pricing subject matter expert and will be a core team member driving strategic business priorities. The incumbent uses his/her experience and background to ensure that the continuous improvement of department occurs by continually developing and testing hypothesis, but also in instrumental in taking those recommendations and driving those into execution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  


  • Highly skilled in SQL, VBA, Excel macro coding/development, Tableau/Power BI, Microsoft Access and business intelligence platforms (e.g. Business Objects) 

  • Ability to manage a variety of PM tools such as Microsoft Projects, Flow Charts, Visio 

  • Superior interpersonal and oral/written communication skills with the ability to relate well and cooperate with others to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals.  

  • Demonstrated management of complex projects 

  • Outstanding analytical abilities required. 

  • Experience across architecture domains including technology, data, integration and application. 

  • Ability to identify process gaps, conduct Root Cause Analysis and hold internal stakeholders accountable for improvements 

  • Ability to challenge information and a passion to exhaustively uncover robust facts and data. Proven ability to synthesize complex and detailed data and information into meaningful outtakes and decision base information. 

  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and think independently about alternative ways to solve problems based on standardization of data and analytics. 

  • Ability to be tactical as well as see the bigger operational picture. 

  • Team player and leader with a strong desire to learn. 



  • Bachelor's degree in Information systems, data analytics, business, engineering, or highly quantitative degree (Master’s preferred) 

  • 5-7+ years of applicable analytical experience within finance, supply chain or analysis 

  • Building, manufacturing or industrial sector experience (preferred).     ,                                                    ,
