Retail Business Analyst

The Retail Business Analyst will be a key business partner to the Retail Market Development Team, partnering with this team to perform various analyses on critical projects with some of our key retail customers, including The Home Depot & Lowes. This role will partner cross functionally with the retail market development team, product team, and broader finance teams to provide data driven insights.  This role spans both project-related and ongoing operational goals and has a heavy focus on the siding business.

You will be responsible for collecting and summarizing data that will assist Retail growth and efficiency.  This individual will also perform analysis that supports development and implementation of programs.  This will involve active and collaborative participation on short-term and long-term strategic initiatives.  Collaborations will be with cross-functional teams including sales, product, strategy and broader finance teams.  The individual will be expected to develop and maintain a thorough understanding of business processes pertaining to all aspects of retail.   Successful candidates will offer proven analytical capabilities and a collaborative working style among a high caliber team.   You'll spend time going deep operationally & analytically to uncover new findings that inform our strategy while building for the future by performing analysis that guides us to the right decisions at scale.

Position Responsibilities

Retail Assortment Optimization (60%)

  • Maintain the company’s Retail Assortment optimization models which enable the assortment optimization strategy (e.g. identifying gaps, rationalizing current mix)
  • Support the preparation of materials for leadership discussions to evaluate assortment optimization initiatives
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of data used by the business.  This includes leveraging internal subject matter experts to develop projections and models.

Various Ad-hoc Analysis (40%)

  • Collaborate with cross functional sales & product teams to perform analysis that supports business cases and insights from market development tactics.  Analysis could span pricing, new products, promotions, or store placement.
  • POG and Merchandising analysis to make data-based decisions that aid the delivery of operational efficiency
  • Support company’s efforts to deepen shopper insights, using both company and customer data sets
  • Develop and own various models for the product strategies as needed, in close partnership with the Retail Market Development business team
  • Contribute to other aspects of retail market development, as directed by team leadership.

  • Exceptional analytical abilities required and a natural curiousity for understanding the “why” behind the business results. This includes outstanding attention to detail and willingness to handle ambiguity in data availability and definitive metrics.
  • Proven ability to synthesize large amounts of complex data into actionable insights. Articulates views in a clear and concise manner and can share clear insights and observations that will manifest into business decisions and thoughtful recommendations to customers.

  • Ability to proactively manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, change oriented environment, yet flexible enough to adapt to changes
  • Experience in retail or CPG, or a high degree of passion and comfort with the retail and CPG manufacturer space

  • Familiarity with working with project management teams




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Analytics or another quantitiative discipline
  • 2-4 years of analyst experience ideally in merchandising or retail analytics
  • Advanced skills in Excel, Powerpoint, Tableau and Microsoft BI are a plus
  • Advanced skills working with large data sets using SQL, R or similar
  • Experience in a large business unit within a sophisticated, global, public company environment, preferably in the retail space
