Job Description: "Position Summary The Product Manager has a dual reporting structure, reporting into the Senior Product and Segment Manager. The Product Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Company's 'ColorPlus' product line including product development and line extensions, research, pricing, supply chain, and market programs. The position is measured on sales and profitability growth of the product line. This position does not have any direct reports. Position
RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops and executes marketing plans that increase sales of the Company's proprietary product line, ColorPlus, on local, regional, and national levels by: (40%) • Partnering with the sales team to develop offensive and defensive business development strategies that are executed through dealer and distributor networks; • Partnering with the marketing communications team to develop the necessary tools to execute a successful strategy that proactively identifies sales opportunities through sales segmentation and key customer targeting; • Understanding and selling to the value proposition of each potential customer and providing key support for the sales team to utilize during the entire process of securing the customer through retaining the customer; and • Understanding and managing key business levels to optimize sales and profitability. Leverages opportunities for sound product management and understands customer needs while developing and executing marketing and product initiatives by: (40%) • Developing a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of the industry, market, and competitor information; • Contributing to all consumer and customer market research activities; • Partnering with internal sales analysis coworkers to identify and analyze market data; • Managing the development, justification, and execution of new product line extensions, including research, consumer and trade communications, and product/solution marketing materials; • Streamlining product line and sales materials via sku rationalization; • Understanding and tracking competitive and substitute product pricing and value equations; and • Analyzing the impact of pricing actions and making pricing recommendations. Manages the timeline, budget, and quality of work product assigned under the scope of various project management assignments in order to work effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed on time and as specified by ensuring individual as well as team work is aligned with the department's overall goals and strategies. QUALIFICATIONS: may be required and/or assigned as necessary. Quantitative Dimensions Decision Making: The Product Manager makes decisions based on sales data, marketplace insights, market research, and personal experience. His/Her decisions have a direct impact on product costs, pricing, profitability, SG&A expenses, and sales effectiveness. The ability to sell ideas internally and externally will determine the incumbent's success. Supervisory/Lead Responsibilities: The Product Manager does not have direct reports, however, will be expected to act as a leader in the organization with the ability to supervise in the future. His/Her ability to influence others will determine his/her success in the role. Scope of Position: The Product Manager interacts with all levels and functions in the organization, including Sales, Manufacturing, Marketing, Communications, and R&D. The incumbent interact within all aspects of Marketing within the ColorPlus product line from pricing and product mix to sales calls and advertising. Position Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Required: • Excellent leadership, project management, collaboration skills, and the ability to drive results. • Ability to proactively manage multiple projects in a fast paced, change oriented environment, yet flexible enough to adapt to changes. • Ability to analyze business and market trends and partner feedback to better refine product offerings and drive business growth. • Strong bias for results and can work independently as well as interact effectively across functions and at all levels. • Ability to achieve alignment and buy in for strategies and plans to drive achievement of goals. • Demonstrated ability to successfully understand profit and loss techniques and skills to develop and evaluate business goals and strategies, analyze information to derive insights and implications to initiate planning and/or re-planning, and controlling actual results versus budget. • Results-oriented to ensure delivery of appropriate products and services in an accurate, complete, and timely fashion. • Superior interpersonal and written/oral communication skills with the ability to relate well and cooperate with others to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals. • Demonstrated advanced skills with the standard features of various personal computer word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, and proprietary software). • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Required: • Bachelor's Degree in Sales, Marketing, Business, or related field (advanced degree with marketing emphasis strongly preferred). • Five or more years experience in product, brand management, and/or channel marketing in a consumer durable goods, or related industry. • Multi-faceted Market research experience. • Experience managing the product, place, price and promotion (4 Ps of marketing). • Proven project management experience in a cross-functional environment. • Business to business plus business to consumer marketing experience (preferred). • Sales or business development experience (preferred)."
